Gorillas

Miss Clara Bear found her thumb today! She's been trying to shove her entire fist into her mouth when she gets upset. It was adorable but didn't work too well for her since she couldn't fit it all in there. But today she finally found her thumb!

I took Hannah and Clara for a walk in the stroller so that I could get some exercise. While we were walking Hannah turned around in her seat and told me that she was going to tell me a story. Then she turned back around and started talking. She was saying alot but I couldn't hear her over the noice of the stroller wheels. After about 5 mins she turned to face me again and said, "Did you like my story?". I smiled and told her that I loved it. Hannah rolled her eyes at me and in an exasperated voice said, "Mom!? The gorillas ate you!". Boy, do I wish I could have heard that story!

Duck, Duck, Goose

I was trying to help Hannah put away her clean clothes. They were all in front of her dresser and as she picked each one up I would tell her which drawer to put it in. Apparently she was getting annoyed with me for trying to help instead of letting her do it herself because she finally looked at me and said, "Have some patience Mom! I got it!".

When Emma and Aaron came home from school Tootsie came running to meet them. Emma dropped her backpack, grabbed Toots in a big hug and said, "Hey Toots! Whats up girlfriend?!".

During sacrament meeting today Aaron kept leaning over and asking me in my ear if he could go get a drink of water. I kept telling him no, he had to wait till after the meeting. His Dad finally whispered, "Aaron! If you ask Mom one more time if you can get a drink you're gonna have to wait till everyone else is gone before you can get up and go get one!". Bub pouted for a minute then sneaked a look at his Dad to make sure he was watching and leaned over to whisper in my ear, "Hey Mom, pshshsf shf sshsppssehhhh."

I got to teach Hannah's class in church today. There were 5 three year olds. I taught them the lesson and we looked at pictures and colored. Then I ran out of things to say and there were still about 10min left of class. I was sitting there trying to figure out what I could do when Hannah got up from her seat, put her hand on my knee and said with a sigh, "Mom, I think it's time to play Duck, Duck, Goose now.".

Lost Tooth

We had finally got the kids into bed tonight but they were having a REALLY hard time settling down. It seemed like every few seconds one of them was calling us needing something. Their dad and I were both getting very frustrated when Emma suddenly started crying very loud. We both marched down the hall and said, " WHAT is it now!?". Then both had to try hard not to laugh. Emma had sneakily called Tootsie (the dog) to come and climb into bed with her and Toots had jumped up right onto Emma's head, knocking out her loose front tooth. Poor Emma was so upset, that is until she remembered that now she could put the tooth under her pillow for the tooth fairy :)

Scripture Reading

Our little Clara is growing like a weed. It is so much fun to begin to see her little personality emerge. She loves her Daddy's deep voice. She will start fussing, and when Mom picks her up it takes a few minutes to get her to quiet down, but all Daddy has to do is pick her up and say in his deep loud voice, "Hey, that's enough, your fine now." And she instantly stops fussing and just looks up at him and smiles. Her mommy sure wishes she could get her to do that!

Hannah picked up the scriptures tonight and proceeded to "read" to all of us. "And the Lord said," she read, "that the man built a boat, and power to choose, and make me a sunbeam, amen."

Candy Please

On the way home from school today Emma was telling us all about her difficult day. She was upset because she thought her teacher confused her with another girl in their class who was wearing the same color as her today. When they were standing in line this other girl was acting out, but then when they got back to the classroom the teacher moved Emma's card to red instead of the girls. "It's not fair!", Emma cried. Aaron shook his head and sighed, then replied, "That's life!".

After school as Aaron and Emma were sitting at the table doing homework Emma was having a hard time. She had a page of math problems to do and wasn't too excited about having to figure them out. She kept on asking me to give her the answers. Finally I said, "Emma, I am not going to do it for you! You have to figure it out by yourself." Emma huffed and glared down at the page. She looked across the table at Aaron and got a thoughtful look on her face. Then she said, "Hey Aaron, how about I ask you a bunch of questions, and if you get them all right I'll give you a treat!"

I was sitting at the computer today when Hannah came up and hugged my leg. I smiled at her and she reached up and put her arms around my neck and squeezed me saying, "I love you Mom!". I hugged her back and said, "I love you too!". She leaned back to smile at me and said, "Can you give me some candy!?".

2011

01/11
Emma: "Mom! You've made a mistake! I'm not Emma!"
Me: "Oh no! What should I do?"
Emma: "Well, the only way to get rid of me is to give me 10 bucks."

The kids were looking through my cookie cutters. Suddenly Aaron held up the gingerbread man and yelled, "Oh cool! I like the dead man!"

08/11
We were driving in the van when Aaron said, "I think Micalea at school likes me." I replied, "Well what makes you think that?". Aaron answered, "When I turned around and looked at her in line she was fluttering at me!"

Aaron confessed one day after school that he really didn't like being so funny. "It just makes all the girls want to kiss me!", he said.

Emma came running into the living room one day and yelled, "Mom! Hannah just sprayed some bug stuff in the garage, and it gave me a lergic allergy!"

09/11
I was cleaning up my bedroom one day, and I had our fire safe out on the bed. Hannah climbed up and started messing with the lock. "Hannah", I said, "leave that alone. You're not allowed to touch that." "Yes I am", Hannah replied, "I'm the mom today!".

I'm so Cute

Daddy was getting ready to leave for the day and Hannah wanted to go. Daddy said, " You can't come this time Hannah, I have to go to work." Hannah was so upset! She started to cry, so Daddy told her he would take her somewhere special when he came home. Hannah stopped fussing, got a huge smile and turned to her Mommy to say, "Sorry Mom, I can't love you because I love DAD now!!"

I took Hannah and one of her friends to go play at the park. Hannah climbed up on to the top of the tallest slide and then waved at me and yelled, "Hi Mom! Do you see me so high? That is amazing!"

We were reading Shel Silversteins Where the Sidewalk Ends. We read the poem "Sister for Sale", which made Aaron crack up, but Emma looked worried. She said in my ear, "Mom, if Aaron sells me, do you think someone would pay $5 cause I'm so cute?"

Doctor visits and Shots :(

Earlier last week Miss Emma broke her arm. She was out on the playground at school running around when she tripped and fell, right onto her arm. It broke a small bone in her wrist, so her cast is only 1/2 arm instead of full arm. It's hot pink. On the way home from getting the cast put on her Daddy stopped at the store and got her her very own set of permanent markers, so that she could have everyone sign it. Everyone in our family signed it, and then she took the markers to school so that school friends could sign too. Apparently Hannah thought that all that signing stuff was pretty cool. She snuck into Emma's backpack after school and stole the bright red permanent marker, which she used to color all over each of her arms. Now she and her sister match!

We went to the doctor today, Clara and Hannah were both due for shots. On the way there I told Hannah that if she was brave and held really still for the nurse that she would get to pick out a treat at the store when her Daddy got home. I was so proud of her, she just sat there and held still and didn't utter a sound, other than a huge sigh when the nurse said we were all done. Poor Clara didn't know what was going on. When the Dr. came in I had her laying on the table and I was smiling and talking to her. He leaned over to smile at her, so I moved out of the way. She quit smiling instantly, stared at him for a minute, and then started hollering (which went on until we actually left the Dr.'s office).

Princesses and Gentlemen

We got a package today. It was my awesome new scanner so it came in a BIG box. I lugged it inside and put it on the table and started pulling off the tape. Hannah came running over and said, "What is it Mom, what is it?". As I pulled off the last of the tape and finally opened the box to reveal the scanner inside her face fell. "Awww", she said, "I wanted a dog."

Later I was sitting on the couch with Emma as she looked around the living room. Thoughtfully she said,        "You know Mom, we could have a lot more animals if we used all the space in our house. Like we could keep a lizard on top of the fridge."

As we were putting on our jammies and getting ready for bed, Hannah was having a hard time listening and sitting still. Finally her big sister sat her down on the couch and said, "Hannah you have to remember, if you want to be a princess, you have to act like a gentleman!"

Yes... I am a Superhero.

It's true, I am a Superhero. Unlike regular people, as a Mom, I am blessed with amazing and awesome super powers. These powers I use daily in my fight against the Evils of Child Rearing.
I have super healing lips, one kiss and all pain and tears vanish instantly.
I have super laser vision. With just one look my children freeze and they know they are in trouble.
I have super ultra lie detector mind powers. I can inexplicably tell whenever my children are fibbing.
I have super encyclopedia brain power. My children know that whatever it is I can fix it, I have the answer for everything.
But best by far is my super human sense of humor. No matter what happens, and let me tell you a lot does, I have the ability to laugh about it, immediately rendering any situation stress free. For example...
When my 3 year old tried to help out her 2 month old baby sister this morning by liberally applying sparkling pink lipstick all over her face, I was able to utilize my super human sense of humor, and laughed while calmly telling my 3 year old that , "No, babies don't like makeup."
Yes my super human sense of humor has saved me from the Evils of Child Rearing many a time. No matter what situation I find myself in, I know, that eventually, I will be able to laugh about it. So, each day as my super human sense of humor is called into action, I will record the incident for my posterity. Because what will be funniest of all, is when I get to laugh at what my grandchildren are doing to their parents. :)
